Degree success for Sam Dawes and James Ravenscroft

December 1, 2025

Sam Dawes (left) and James Ravenscroft (right) have both recently gained a bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying from the University College of Estate Management. The degree spanned 3 years of study on top of their full-time roles at Ravenscroft as quantity surveyors. Their degrees are testament to their hard work and dedication to both their study and their careers.

James joined the company in 2017 as a trainee quantity surveyor and has proved to be an asset to the commercial team, recently as the project surveyor on the new Queen’s Road Medical Practice. Sam started at Ravenscroft in 2013 fresh out of school and has equally grown to become an invaluable member of the team. Having working at the firm for over 12 years, Sam has learnt a lot along the way, “sitting here now as a fully qualified quantity surveyor, I’m extremely proud of what I have achieved and I’m hugely thankful to Ravenscroft for their support and enabling me to get this qualification.”

Both James and Sam gained their degree through Ravenscroft’s ‘earn while you learn’ Trainee Quantity Surveyor scheme, a programme that is offered to school leavers and graduates looking to begin their career in surveying. James said “I didn’t go to university when I left school as I wanted to get stuck into the world of work, but when I realised I could still get a degree whilst working at the same time, it seemed like a no brainer – though I have to confess I did, at times, question my decision whilst in the depths of writing my dissertation!’. They both agree though that the hard work and long days was absolutely worth it, congratulations to Sam and James!
